Cerro Colon means "Colon mountain". Cerro Colon is a very upscale condominium - residential gated community located in the Ciudad Colon foothills only 3 blocks from downtown. Cerro Colon was developed in 2006 by Inmobiliaria Lauca, where they subdivided the 57 acres in a low density community, allowing only for building lots of over ¼ acre (1,000m2). Cerro Colon condominium consists of a total of 81 lots in three phases with high quality services and amenities, starting with a very elegant entrance and roads with pavers and nice sidewalks. The building lots were subdivided in such way that all have sweeping views of the valley and surrounding mountains. In 2012 there are about 15 luxury homes built in the community and more under way.

Cerro Colon Security

The community is fully fenced and gated, with only one entrance and exit. The elegant entrance has a spacious Spanish colonial guardhouse with an owner entrance for quick entrée and a separate visitors’ entrance. Opposed to most other communities, the entrance is very ample and visitors’ cars waiting to go through will not block the owners’ entrance. The guard house is manned 24-7 and guards go from there on a motorbike to do the rounds through the community.

All building lots have water, power, phone cable TV and internet connection at the front of the lot. The monthly condo fee includes maintenance of the common areas as well as the 24-hour security.

Roca Verde is located only two miles out of Atenas, where you have all the amenities and services you will be looking for when you move to Costa Rica. Roca Verde has its own water wells and a huge water reserve tank on top of the hill, so there are never any water problems. Most homes in Roca Verde have their own swimming pool. Power is above ground. Cable TV and internet access is available as well as phone service. Atenas offers a great supply for gardener and maid services.

Most luxury homes in Roca Verde have great views, to the north and to the south, as that is what Atenas is all about. Atenas is known for having the best weather in the world and it doesn’t matter if this is true or not, it still beats the weather in Canada and most of the northern states in the US.

Since Roca Verde is a hilltop, the breezes keep the houses cool all year round and I don’t think anybody has an a/c in their house. Most homes in Roca Verde have only ceiling fans and good cross ventilation. Of course, if you insist on A/C, we’ll connect you with the right people with pleasure.

Costa Rica Public Hospitals

If you have residency in Costa Rica you are obliged to be registered at the Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social  or C.C.S.S.  though this government mannaged health care system has long been broke. To see any doctors, you will need to start standing in line at 4:00 am to get attended and most of the time they’ll give you an appointment 6 months later. The system works though for those who do not have private insurance like I.N.S. or any other insurance company, you just need to be a bit patient and bring a book.
